WWE’s Matt Cardona has named a star he considers his dream opponent, regardless of whether he’s playing a babyface or heel.
Cardona is a longtime pro wrestling fan, and in a recent interview with “The Sportster,” he was asked which former WWE champion he would like to face. His answer came instantly — Macho Man Randy Savage. Cardona stated that he would have enjoyed wrestling any of Savage’s various characters.
“Macho Man is my dream opponent. Whether it be babyface, heel, Macho King, even WCW towards the end, Macho Man, like, I just love his style. I love his mic work, his ring work. Macho Man was larger than life. So, I’d say him,” said Cardona.
It comes as no surprise that Cardona chose Savage, as he has previously called the late star a major influence on him, even naming him on his Mt. Rushmore of Pro Wrestling alongside fellow WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels, as well as a star he worked closely with during his early years in WWE, Edge, aka Adam Copeland. The former Intercontinental Champion has said that he loved the way Savage presented himself each time he appeared on WWE television.
Savage, alongside the likes of Hogan, was a major influence on Cardona during his younger years, with his dream of becoming a WWE Superstar stemming in part from his love for Savage and company, according to his wife and fellow WWE star Chelsea Green. Cardona never got to share the ring with Savage, but the WWE Hall of Famer left a lasting impression on him, making him an easy choice for being his dream opponent.
