Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic opened the game with 20 points in 10 minutes of action and the Dallas Mavericks never looked back after that. The Mavs got the 124-103 road win over the Minnesota Timberwolves to close the Western Conference finals with 4-1.
Doncic had in total 36 points, Kyrie Irving added also 36 and Dallas led by 29 points at halftime (69-40), getting a huge advantage just after 24 minutes of action. The Mavs led by 36 (82-46) to start the third period and the game was over.
It’s the first NBA Finals appearance for Doncic as the Mavs have the chance to compete for their second title after their 2011 triumph, when Dirk Nowitzki won the ring. That remains the only championship title for the Mavs, who won the Western Conference for the third time after 2006 and 2011.
The Timberwolves were disappointing at home and couldn’t extend the series to Game 6, however no team had ever survived after trailing by 3-0 in any playoffs series and Minnesota was not an exception.
Karl-Anthony Towns had 28 points and Anthony Edwards scored 28, but they were non-factors in the game.
French big man Rudy Gobert had nine points and five rebounds for the losing side, while German forward Maxi Kleber added three points for the Mavs.
