The 2026 NBA Playoffs, presented by Google, opened with an unprecedented milestone that transcended the box score, as LeBron and Bronny James became the first father-son duo to share the court in a postseason game.
In the Los Angeles Lakers‘ victory over the Houston Rockets at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday, the 41-year-old LeBron delivered a vintage performance, recording 19 points and 13 assists to start his 19th postseason campaign. While the victory secured a 1-0 series lead for Los Angeles, the night was marked by the second-quarter moment when 21-year-old Bronny entered the rotation, officially etching their names into professional sports history.
Reflecting on the achievement during his postgame press conference, LeBron placed the experience at the pinnacle of his storied career, valuing it above his four championships and numerous scoring titles. “The best thing that’s ever happened to me in my career, above everything that I’ve accomplished,” he remarked.
He further emphasized the personal gravity of the moment, stating, “Me being on the floor with him, postseason, regular season, training camp, practices, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me in my career.”
The night was particularly poignant for the James family, with LeBron noting, “My mom saw her son and her grandson in a playoff game. What a wild ride.”
The win was particularly impressive given the absence of starters Austin Reaves and Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic, both of whom were sidelined with injuries. This depleted roster forced a collective defensive effort and heightened the pressure on James to facilitate the offense.
“When you’re missing so much firepower like we are right now with AR and Luka being out, we all have to do our job and maybe have to do a little bit more, protect one another offensively and defensively, and I think we did that tonight,” said James.
