Kevin Holland isn’t showing receipts, but now he’s reversing course and claiming he is the $11 million man that Dana White referenced when talking about the financial success for some fighters who have competed on The Contender Series.
After Tuesday night’s event, White said one Contender Series veteran made that much money without ever competing in a world title fight. The immediate assumption was Holland, who has remained one of the most popular and active fighters on the entire UFC roster, and he didn’t even earn his contract from his appearance on The Contender Series.
Holland initially denied that he made that much money, but then hours after his initial post on social media, he changed his tune and admitted he was the fighter that White referenced during his post-fight press conference appearance.
But Holland was also quick to point out that making that much money and keeping that kind of money are two totally different things.
“Yo, it’s the $11 million man,” Holland said on Instagram. “I’m here to tell ya’ll one thing right now: I may have made $11 million, but I done had four kids, paid taxes, got divorced three times. Shit’s f*cked up.”
Because Holland has been a top-15 fighter most of his career in the UFC, with numerous appearances on major pay-per-view cards, including the time he stepped up on 24 hours’ notice to face Khamzat Chimaev, it was always an educated guess that he likely made enough money to qualify as the $11 million man from The Contender Series.
He’s also earned $500,000 from 10 post-fight bonuses he’s earned since first arriving in the UFC.
For his part, White didn’t identify the fighter he was referencing, and now Holland has both accepted and denied that he’s the person who made that much money in the UFC.
