JL Bourg secured a victory in the first game of the BKT EuroCup final by shocking Besiktas in Istanbul with a score of 72-60.
This means JL Bourg takes a 1-0 lead in the series, which is played to two victories, and in six days, they will have the chance to clinch the title, win the trophy, and secure a spot in the EuroLeague on their home court.
JL Bourg played an incredible team game, with fierce defense, ultimately triumphing over a team that defeated them twice in the regular season. Adam Mokoka was outstanding with 14 points, nine rebounds, and excellent defense, Assemian Moulare had 13, Tre Mitchell scored 11, while Tajuan Agee added ten.
On the other side, in the ranks of Besiktas, which probably played its weakest game of the season, Anthony Brown scored 14 points, while Ante Zizic finished the game with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Although Besiktas entered the final as the favorite, they suffered a surprising defeat on their home court and now must win in France and then once more on their home court to claim the title.
Frederic Fauthoux’s team played an excellent defensive game, holding Besiktas to just 26 points in the first half, and 41 in the first three quarters, bringing them a step closer to victory (41-55). Besiktas managed to slightly reduce the deficit, with Brown hitting three triples to bring his team within seven points, with three minutes remaining (55-62), but Moulare’s three-pointer sealed the deal in Istanbul.
The second final game is scheduled for next Tuesday, starting at 19:30 CET.
