UFC veteran Marlon Vera is set to fly to Brazil to take on Jean Silva in a submission-only grappling match on two days’ notice on April 8, the promotion announced Monday. Silva vs. Vera serves as the main event bout at the Komplexo Tempo in Sao Paulo.
Silva won his last UFC fight with a decision against Arnold Allen, rebounding from a knockout defeat to Diego Lopes, and was featured on the first Hype card in Brazil in March, going to a draw in a submission-only match with Bryce Mitchell in Rio de Janeiro.
Vera, who scored 10 of his 23 pro MMA wins by way of submission, last fought in the UFC in February, losing a decision to David Martinez. The Ecuadorian lost four in a row in MMA with previous defeats to Sean O’Malley, Deiveson Figueiredo and Aiemann Zahabi.
Hype Brazil is co-headlined by Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Raul Rosas Jr. and also features jiu-jitsu world champion Joao Miyao taking on Dennis Oliveira, both submission-only matches.
