Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is nearing his long-awaited return to the court after recovering from a torn Achilles, according to ESPN insider Shams Charania.

Tatum, who suffered the injury last May, is reportedly expected to return as soon as Friday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks.

The six-time All-Star endured a lengthy rehabilitation process that included controlled scrimmages and practice work with the team’s G League affiliate in recent weeks. His appearance on Boston’s injury report earlier this week signaled that a comeback was imminent.

Tatum averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists last season, earning his fourth consecutive All-NBA First Team selection.

His potential return comes at a crucial time, as the Celtics prepare for the playoffs while sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
