SIR ANDY MURRAY is seriously considering becoming a golf caddie – and the “dream” would be to carry bags for fellow Scotsman Robert MacIntyre.

Fifteen months after he quit tennis, the two-time Wimbledon champion has stated his desire to get involved in a different professional sport.

Having switched to golf over the past year, he “plays three or four times a week” during his kids’ school hours but not on weekends.

Impressively he has managed to reduce his handicap down from seven to two within a matter of months.

Though he is aiming to become a scratch golfer, he thinks it is unrealistic to try his hand on the pro ranks.

One aspiration, however, would be to act as a caddie and he has mentioned for the first time the prospect of working for close pal MacIntyre, who is a two-time Ryder Cup winner.

Murray, 38, said: “I’m considering becoming a golf caddie. Hopefully for a professional golfer at some stage.

“Well, I love golf and I think if you love that sport it would be a great job.

“If you were working with a top golfer and being there when they’re having a great moment on the course and feeling like you can help a little bit with decisions, I think it’d be a brilliant job.

“Dream pro to caddie for? Robert MacIntyre. I mean that’s (the) dream.

“Imagine carrying Robert MacIntyre’s bag when he wins The Open or something like that. That would be like dream job.

“As much as I would like to go (pro), I am not. I would love to. It’s a great game. My body is physically beat-up from the tennis.”

The secret ambition was revealed during an appearance on The Romesh Ranganathan Show podcast on YouTube.

Oban-born MacIntyre, 29, is one of the UK’s best active golfers and lifted the Canadian and Scottish Opens in his breakthrough year of 2024.

This summer, he finished second behind JJ Spaun at the US Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Murray previously played golf with MacIntyre during pro-am tournaments, including the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the BMW PGA Championship.

Asked by comedian Ranganathan if there was a danger he would be a “focus pull” given his status in society and previous life on the tennis court, the former world No1 replied: “Initially. Potentially. But I don’t think long-term.

“I think with anything new people would probably get quite excited about that but then after a while it just becomes the norm.”
