Mario Hezonja remains firmly committed to Real Madrid after a stellar 2025-26 campaign, with Eurohoops sources confirming his current contract runs until 2029 and contains an NBA opt-out clause exclusively. Consequently, it is highly unlikely that the 31-year-old Croatian combo forward will depart the team based in the Spanish capital for any destination outside of an NBA offer.
Since joining Los Blancos in 2022 and subsequently signing a five-year contract extension in 2024, the Dubrovnik native has evolved into one of the most dominant and reliable forces in elite European basketball. His exceptional court impact was extended during the 2025-26 edition of the EuroLeague. Over 44 total appearances, including 36 starts, Super Mario tallied 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. This productive run elevated his career appearances to 230 total games in Europe’s premier club competition and helped his side reach the prestigious championship game of the 2026 EuroLeague Final Four Athens, presented by Etihad. Hezonja previously captured the EuroLeague crown with Madrid back in 2023.
Domestically, he reached a brilliant new career pinnacle by being named the Most Valuable Player of Spain’s Liga Endesa Regular Season. He dominated the domestic circuit by averaging 17.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game over 31 games.
This spectacular European success follows a stint in North America, where the fifth overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm, logged 335 games between 2015 and 2020, suiting up for the Orlando Magic, New York Knicks, and Portland Trail Blazers.
Beyond his flourishing club career, Hezonja remains a vital international pillar, serving as a constant regular with the senior national team of Croatia since 2014.
