Nikola Jovic could help the Miami Heat complete a trade for Klay Thompson, but the organization appears unwilling to include the Serbian forward in a potential deal, according to Clutch Points.
Miami remains the most motivated suitor for Thompson, who is entering the final year of his contract with the Dallas Mavericks at $17.5 million. The Mavs are seeking value in a trade and currently have no interest in negotiating a buyout with the veteran sharpshooter.
A package built around Jovic would help Miami match Thompson’s salary, but the Heat continue to value the 23-year-old after selecting him with the 27th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. They previously discussed trading him after acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo but ultimately decided against it.
Jovic’s four-year, $62.4 million extension begins this season, with the forward set to earn $16.2 million in 2026-27. Unless Dallas changes its position on a buyout, Miami’s reluctance to move Jovic could complicate its pursuit of Thompson.
