Devin Haney is reportedly close to signing a direct deal with DAZN, a move that may create unexpected challenges for Zuffa Boxing as it begins building around Shakur Stevenson.
Haney has long been viewed as one of Stevenson’s biggest potential opponents. A direct DAZN agreement would mean any fight between them would likely require cooperation between competing platforms unless Turki Alalshikh decides to finance the event and bring the sides together.
The reported agreement was first disclosed by Sean Zittel, who said Haney is expected to sign directly with DAZN rather than join Zuffa Boxing.
That changes the equation for Zuffa. Stevenson recently signed with the promotion after his victory over Teofimo Lopez, giving the company one of boxing’s top technicians. The question becomes who fills the schedule if Haney is no longer part of the same promotional picture.
Shakur has mentioned Lamont Roach Jr. plus Gary Antuanne Russell as possible opponents. Those matchups may appeal to dedicated hardcore boxing fans, but neither has generated the level of public interest associated with a major pay-per-view event. Gervonta Davis remains the biggest available name, although his inactivity plus uneven recent performances have reduced some of the momentum surrounding that fight.
Turki has shown a willingness to work across promotional lines when he believes a fight deserves to happen. Haney against Shakur may still reach the ring if Turki decides it is worth funding. That possibility does not erase the business challenge facing Zuffa.
If Shakur has broad influence over opponent selection, Haney’s reported move to DAZN becomes more important. Zuffa may have fewer commercially viable choices while relying on outside cooperation to secure one of the biggest fights available for its newest star.
Should Haney complete the reported agreement, the impact may extend well beyond his own career. It would also test how Zuffa plans to maximize its investment in Shakur.
