LEE CARSLEY claims Jobe Bellingham is still “going in the right direction” despite his Dortmund woes after talks with the star.
The 20-year-old followed in his brother Jude’s footsteps by signing for the German giants in an initial £26.96m deal from Sunderland last summer.
But Bellingham junior has struggled to make much of an impact on the pitch amid continued speculation over difficulties settling in off it.
He is back at former club Birmingham City tonight as captain of England U21s against the Republic of Ireland and his Young Lions boss has no concerns over his midfielder.
Carsley said: “We talk about a lot of things, as I do with all of the players.
“The games that he’s been available for to play with us he’s been very good and he’s made a strong start to this qualification campaign.

“It’s important that young players develop at their own time and pace. He’s going in the right direction.
“He’s got really good leadership qualities. He’s a brilliant example on and off the pitch to the rest of the players, along with some of the other players that have been in and around this squad before.
“Him and Archie Gray act like captains. Jobe has got the armband but there are three or four who are more than capable of leading and Jobe has really grown into that role. He’s a player that I love working with.”
Meanwhile, Carsley also revealed that Arsenal’s 15-year-old wonderkid Max Dowman is being considered for a fast-tracked call-up.
