The Milwaukee Bucks are inching closer to elimination from the 2026 NBA Playoffs presented by Google, yet 31-year-old Giannis Antetokounmpo remains determined to overcome a left knee hyperextension and return to the court

The Milwaukee Bucks find themselves at a critical crossroads as superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo remains sidelined with a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise. Tensions are reportedly rising behind the scenes, with the organization and the Greek Freak no longer on the same page regarding his status. While the Bucks’ front office aims to prioritize the long-term health of their franchise cornerstone by potentially shutting him down for the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season, Antetokounmpo’s legendary competitive drive has him pushing for a return before the campaign concludes.

The 31-year-old forward attempted to test his limits, completing his standard pregame routine at the Delta Center. However, head coach Doc Rivers offered little clarity on a timeline. “I really don’t know. He’s working,” he stated in a pregame press conference on Thursday. “He wants to be healthy.” By sitting out against the Utah Jazz, Giannis has now missed a career-high 33 games this season.

In his absence, Milwaukee struggled significantly, falling 128-96 to Utah. The loss dropped the Bucks to 28-41, leaving them 7.5 games out of the Eastern Conference Play-In zone with only 13 games remaining. While Giannis watched from the bench, his brothers ranged from Alex staying with the G League’s Wisconsin Herd to Thanasis contributing 4 points and 3 rebounds in limited action. Resurfacing in the starting lineup, French Ousmane Dieng provided a bright spot with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

The Jazz, already eliminated from postseason contention, kept Ukrainian Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk out of the rotation, with Finnish Lauri Markkanen (right hip impingement), and Bosnian Jusuf Nurkic (nose injury recovery) on the injury report.
