EDERSON says that Pep Guardiola has asked him to return to Manchester City for a proper goodbye after moving to Fenerbahce.

The Brazilian keeper ended an incredible eight-year stay at the Etihad this summer, having won 18 trophies under Guardiola,  including six Premier League titles and the club’s first ever Champions League crown.

But the 32-year-old admits his move to Turkey happened so quickly that he barely had the chance to speak to his boss, until Pep called to make sure their farewell didn’t end on the phone.

Ederson told The Sun: “The conversation I had with Pep is difficult to explain now because I had to speak to him on the phone, after games there’s no time to talk as he’s always busy.

“When he got back to me, he said, ‘You have to come to say a proper goodbye.’ Then the next day he sent me a message about how many wins I have in my career.

“But I love Pep, and I love him for his mentality. He’s the best coach of our time for me. It was a pleasure to work with him.”

The Brazil international, who joined City from Benfica in 2017, also admitted he’d been thinking about a new challenge for some time and that uncertainty took a toll on him last season.

He said: “Even the season before this one, I had already thought about leaving, but it didn’t happen.

“I think that affected my performance , I had five injuries and wasn’t at my best. That made me realise I needed a change.”

Now settled in Istanbul, Ederson says he’s rediscovered his spark and is relishing the atmosphere of Turkish football as he aims to fire Fenerbahce back to glory.

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 – all the info

TIME for round two of this generation’s family feud!

Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn go punch-for-punch once again as both rivals look to make their fathers proud.

The blockbuster rematch takes place at the 62,000-seater Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, November 15.

Eubank Jr narrowly outpointed his bitter foe after 12 brutal rounds in April to secure the bragging rights in what was certainly a Fight of the Year contender.

And the two British superstars will dance once more as Eubank Jr aims to do the double while Benn seeks revenge after suffering a first career loss.

“With this move, I’m breathing football again, feeling the incredible atmosphere in Turkish matches.

“I’m very happy with this challenge and eager to win.”

Turkish football has been rocked with issues of betting scandals with some players and officials suspended but Ederson says he barely pays attention to that as it was years before his time.

He concluded: “I think I have seen the news but I don’t pay attention to this because I know I just focus on my team and performance.”
