CHELSEA youngster Estevao has revealed why he asked Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti to take his driving test.

The 18-year-old has been a key member of the national team since making his debut in September last year.

But despite having nine senior caps and three goals under his belt already, and being one of the most high-profile young footballers in the world, he was determined to achieve one simple goal during a recent camp.

Estevao was given a day off from training to complete his driving test in Brazil.

He told Sky Sports: “We were in Sao Paulo with the national team. It was because things were very hectic, I only had a little time there before coming here so I needed to get my driver’s license.

“So they gave me a certain time that I had to go for the driving test, and then I got the call-up.

“So that’s when we spoke with Ancelotti to see if he would let me go to get my licence.

“So then I went to do my driving test and Ancelotti was waiting at the door for me to see if I passed or not… I was like: ‘Sir, I passed, I passed!’

“Then at lunchtime he stopped everyone and said: ‘Stop everyone! I have some news to tell you… Estevao passed his driving test!’

“Everyone was laughing so much all around the table.”

Estevao is set to star for Brazil in the nation’s upcoming friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia.

“We are always together during training, and after training too. For example, when we go to the team hotel before games, I’m always with Estevao, I think this relationship is perfect.”
