A visiting Leeds fan lodged a complaint, alleging they had been spat at by Mejbri while the midfielder was warming up in the second half.

It sparked an investigation by the FA, with Lancashire Police also confirming they were “establishing facts”.

But the Tunisia international now has until late November to respond after being charged with misconduct.

An FA statement read: “Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri has been charged with misconduct following their Premier League fixture against Leeds United on Saturday 18 October.
