Christian Medina (27-4, 19 KOs), fighting in his hometown, started quickly by outlanding Curiel in the opening round and finding success to the body through the early stages. Medina continued that approach in the second and third rounds, appearing to build an early lead.
Adrian Curiel (26-7-1, 5 KOs), a former IBF light flyweight champion, adjusted from the fourth through seventh rounds, increasing his activity and work rate to bring the fight back to even terms.
Curiel had one of his best moments in the eighth round, landing a clean overhand right that snapped Medina’s head back. Medina responded in the ninth by boxing more sharply to the head, while the tenth round remained competitive, with Curiel closing strongly in the final seconds.
The eleventh round was tight, with Medina holding a slight edge, and the twelfth saw Medina do just enough to secure the decision in a fight that remained in doubt until the final bell.
The judges scored the bout 120-108, 116-112, and 115-113 in favor of Medina. Jose Hiram Rivera served as the referee.
Mora Rallies to Claim WBO NABO Featherweight Title
Alberto Mora overcame an early knockdown to earn a decision win over Jose Amaro in a 10-round featherweight bout for the WBO NABO title.
Mora (14-0, 9 KOs), from Mexico City, was dropped in the opening round but recovered quickly. Amaro (12-2-1, 4 KOs), a southpaw from Monterrey, held the edge in the second round, while the third and fourth rounds were closely contested with Mora slightly ahead.
The fight remained competitive through the middle rounds. Mora finished the sixth strongly, pressing Amaro against the ropes, while Amaro landed a right hook in the eighth that drew blood from Mora’s nose. Both fighters traded momentum in the ninth before Mora closed the show with a strong tenth round in a spirited exchange.
Scores were 97-92 twice and 96-93. Referee Miguel Canuel officiated.
Cordero Takes Split Decision at Super Lightweight
Super lightweight Abraham “Bombi” Cordero won a split decision over southpaw Eduardo Martinez in a closely fought 10-round bout.
Cordero (17-6-2, 8 KOs), from Guadalajara, spent stretches fighting off the ropes and countering Martinez (16-3, 11 KOs). The action remained even through the middle rounds, with neither fighter establishing sustained control.
Martinez finished the tenth round strongly, but the judges awarded the decision to Cordero by scores of 97-93 and 96-94, with Martinez receiving one card at 96-95. Pablo Diaz was the referee.
Juarez Stays Unbeaten Over Sanchez
Super welterweight Sabastian Juarez remained undefeated with a six-round decision win over Ernesto “Mamba” Sanchez.
Juarez (11-0, 8 KOs), of Brownsville, Texas, outlanded Sanchez in the opening three rounds. Sanchez (5-3-1, 4 KOs) rallied in the fourth and fifth, landing a solid left hand in the fifth round that briefly checked Juarez’s momentum.
The final round was competitive, with Juarez warned for hitting on the break. Judges scored the bout 59-54, 59-55, and 58-56.
Carbajal Wins Pro Debut
Super bantamweight Roberto “Prandini” Carbajal made a successful professional debut, defeating Edgar Vazquez over four rounds.
Carbajal (1-0) dropped Vazquez (2-2) with a flurry in the second round and controlled the action throughout, though he was unable to secure a stoppage. All three judges scored the bout 40-35.
