An arrest warrant has been issued for Gervonta Davis, the WBA lightweight champion, stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident that authorities say occurred in October in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Miami Gardens Police confirmed Wednesday that the warrant includes charges of false imprisonment, battery and attempted kidnapping. At a department briefing, officials said they are working with federal partners to locate and apprehend Davis.
According to police, the incident took place on October 27 at a gentlemen’s club in Miami Gardens where the alleged victim was employed. Investigators said Davis entered the venue and later confronted the woman in a back area of the club before an encounter that moved through multiple parts of the building.
Police allege Davis used physical force to restrain the woman and attempted to remove her from the location against her will. Authorities said the woman was eventually released and later showed visible bruising on her arm. Investigators stated that surveillance footage from the club was reviewed and supports key elements of the complaint.
A civil lawsuit connected to the incident was filed shortly after the alleged encounter. Police said the woman reported that she had been in a brief intimate relationship with Davis earlier in 2025 and that the relationship had ended approximately one month before the incident. She told investigators she had blocked all contact following the breakup.
Law enforcement officials said the findings of their investigation were sufficient for prosecutors to seek judicial approval for an arrest warrant, which was granted this week. Miami Gardens Police emphasized that domestic violence allegations are treated as serious offenses and pursued accordingly.
The timing of the lawsuit and investigation coincided with Davis’ removal from a planned December bout in Miami. That event went forward with a different headliner after Davis was no longer involved.
Davis has faced multiple legal issues in recent years, including prior domestic violence allegations and a hit-and-run case in Baltimore that resulted in house arrest and probation. Authorities have not said whether the current warrant places him in violation of those probationary terms.
For now, the situation places one of boxing’s most prominent champions back in a familiar position, dealing with legal consequences that again threaten to overshadow his career inside the ring.
