Canada found success last year in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, gaining the bronze medal after beating Team USA in the third-place game. This means they booked a ticket to the Olympic Games for the first time in 24 years.

Andrew Wiggins wasn’t part of the roster that ended the World Cup in 3rd position thanks to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks among others, and his commitment towards this summer’s appointment in the French capital is still unknown.

“Stay tuned”, he said on a conference call with select media according to Sportsnet. “They had a great summer last year when they had qualified for the Olympics, all those guys did their thing and really put on [a show] for the country, and I’d be honored to play for our country”, he added.

“We’ll see what happens you know, you guys just stay tuned and, you know, we’ll see what the road brings”, he also said after representing his national team several times in the past, like on the road to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He had 15.1 points per game in Mexico’s 2015 FIBA OQT.

The last time Andrew Wiggins wore the Canadian national team’s jersey was in Victoria for the 2020 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where he averaged 21.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game against Greece, the Czech Republic, and China. He couldn’t bring his team to the Olympics in Tokyo.

Jordi Fernandez’s team has been drawn into Group A of this summer’s basketball tournament at the Paris Olympic Games, with Australia and the winners of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Spain and Greece. Spain, Finland, Slovenia, and Greece are the frontrunners to take those spots.
