Amanda Serrano will make the latest defense of her featherweight championship on August 21, when she faces Argentina’s Lucrecia Manzur in Temecula, California. Ring Magazine announced the bout on Thursday, with Serrano putting her Ring, WBA and WBO titles on the line.
The 37-year-old Puerto Rican star owns a record of 49-4-1 with 32 knockouts and remains one of the most accomplished fighters in women’s boxing after winning world titles in seven weight classes. Serrano has spent the past several years facing many of the sport’s biggest names while continuing to add to her championship legacy.
Manzur, 27, enters the title fight with a 14-4 record and seven knockouts. The Argentine contender has built her résumé on the South American circuit, but this will be the biggest opportunity of her career as she challenges an established champion on the international stage.
While Manzur enters the fight with momentum from her recent performances, she has yet to face an opponent with Serrano’s championship experience or record.
Still, the bout gives Serrano another chance to defend three major world titles while staying active before pursuing another marquee fight.
Serrano will be a strong favorite based on her experience, championship pedigree and level of opposition throughout her career. Manzur, meanwhile, faces the difficult task of proving she belongs with one of the sport’s elite champions. Serrano will be expected to retain her titles, while Manzur has the opportunity to change the direction of her career with a career-best performance.
