Alex Pereira is as big as he’s ever been as he prepares to make history.
Next up for “Poatan” is a fight with Ciryl Gane at UFC White House on June 14, when Pereira attempts to win an interim heavyweight championship and become the first UFC fighter to hold titles in three divisions. After claiming gold at 185 and 205 pounds, he now bulks up for a new challenge, and is currently close to 250 pounds according to a video he posted to Instagram:
Though it’s difficult to read the scale in Pereira’s clip, he plainly states in an accompanying caption, “247 pounds. Chama.”
The number shouldn’t be too shocking to fans who have tracked Pereira’s trips to the scale over the years as he has always looked like he was well north of 200 pounds, even when competing at middleweight. In fact, Pereira actually weighed in at 244 pounds last June in between light heavyweight title fights with Magomed Ankalaev, though he eventually dropped back down to 205 pounds in October to avenge a loss to Ankalaev and become a two-time champion in that division.
This time, Pereira can keep the extra poundage, and even add more bulk before the historic White House event in June. Should Pereira defeat Gane and become UFC champion again—after previously doing so against Israel Adesanya at middleweight and Jiri Prochazka at light heavyweight—the feat will put Pereira in a class of his own and possibly set up a future unification bout with undisputed champion Tom Aspinall.
