Darby Allin has had the privilege of working with legendary wrestler Sting and now his son, Steven Borden, and he has pointed out the similarities between the father and son.
Allin teamed with Sting in the latter’s final few matches of his iconic career, and now he’s playing a part in Steven Borden’s career, albeit at the beginning of his. In an interview with “Good Karma Wrestling,” Allin said that Borden shares his father Sting’s hunger to learn, improve, and become better.
“Just his hunger and the tenacity to never want to take an off night [is the similarity between Borden and Sting]. You know, with Sting’s last run, everyone was like, ‘Oh, you could have just rode out, played the greatest hits, rode off in the sunset.’ No, this man was like reinventing himself at 64, jumping off balconies and going crazy,” said Allin. “And I see Steven, and the fact that he’s entered it later in life was, to me, kind of a good thing, so he understands exactly what he’s getting into. It’s not like a young kid who, you know, is just like, ‘Ah, I don’t want to go to college, so I’m going to follow my father’s footsteps.’ This man had a whole life before this. And he gave it up for this. So, he understands the magnitude of what you need to put into this. So it’s really exciting to see that hunger.”
Allin has been by Borden’s side every step of the way in his pro wrestling journey, training him and then wrestling alongside him when he made his debut last year and now during his AEW run.
Others in the pro wrestling business, like AEW’s Jeff Jarrett, who has witnessed Sting’s career up close, also see many similarities between the WWE Hall of Famer and his son, particularly in their mannerisms. Allin could very well have another member of the Sting family to team with in the future as Steven’s brother, Garrett, has also begun wrestling and has even competed on “AEW Collision.”
