Joe Lauzon is fighting in Boston again, this time at the most historic ballpark in Major League Baseball.
Promotional officials announced on Friday that Lauzon, a veteran of 27 UFC fights, has signed a multi-fight deal with BKFC. The Massachusetts native debuts at BKFC 92 on Aug. 29 at Fenway Park.
“The thing that got me really excited was fighting at Fenway Park,” Lauzon said in a relase. “I’ve fought in Boston before and I fought at TD Garden, but there’s something special about competing on the field at Fenway. I grew up a Red Sox fan, played baseball as a kid, and watched the Red Sox win the World Series while I was in college. To have the chance to fight there is pretty incredible.
“Boston has always shown up for me. Every time I’ve fought there, my friends, family, and supporters have packed the building. I can’t wait to experience that again. There aren’t many venues more iconic than Fenway Park. Getting to fight there is something I’ll remember forever.”
An opponent for Lauzon will be announced at a later date.
Lauzon hasn’t competed in a combat sports bout in nearly seven years, picking up a 93 second TKO win over Jonathan Pearce at UFC Boston in October 2019. Lauzon was booked to fight Donald Cerrone on three separate occasions following that bout, but all of them fell through for a variety of reasons. The 42-year-old competed on season five of The Ultimate Fighter, but has one of the most memorable octagon debuts in UFC history with a short-notice, 48 second knockout of former lightweight champ Jens Pulver at UFC 63 in September 2006.
